Rusa Deer

A very aggressive deer during their rut that will fight to the death to keep other Stags away from the females. The Rusa Deer is about the same size as a Red Deer with very coarse hair and antlers that grow up to in excess of 30 inches with a normal antler configuration of, 3x3 (6 points). These animals hide out in the dense scrub, timber and bush during the day and browse on the edge of the hillside clearings morning and evenings.


Hunting Rusa Deer starts in April when they are in velvet, they harden in late May with their rut during July -August. It’s an adventure like no other, and provides for a very rewarding hunting experience in the North Island of NZ.
