Whitetail Buck

Famous for what’s called their, “Whitetail Wave,” this deer has very acute senses and provides a very challenging hunt.

As a wily animal in the backcountry of the South Island, the Whitetail Buck is regarded as one of the more difficult trophy animals to hunt in New Zealand.

The Whitetail buck is only hunted in two small areas of the lower South Island. They are introduced to NZ from Virginia and have lived comfortably in the dense timbers of the South Island. They are hunted free range and are one of the species included in the ‘Mallick Award’ of the South Pacific. The ‘Rut’ is in May and the deer are in hard Antler beginning in March until July.

We also hunt the Whitetail on our large game Estate in the South Island of NZ.
